Society of Microalgal Biotechnology SYMPOSIUM on
MICROALGAE AND SEAWEED PRODUCTS IN PLANT/SOIL-SYSTEMS
20-22 June 2001 at
Mosonmagyaróvár, Hungary. This was a discussion among
scientists from different countries coming from Eastern
and Western Europe as well as from other continents in the
field of potential and practical use of algae for plant
and/or soil treatment. Presentations were made concerning
cyanobacteria, microalgae and seaweed, which are or can
potentially be used in plant production, and their
influence on plant/soil-systems.

Southeastern
Phycological Colloquy 27-29 October 2000
The
22nd Annual Southeastern Phycological Colloquy was hosted
jointly by the University of South Carolina (Dick Zingmark)
and The College of Charleston (Reid Wiseman) and convened
October 27-29 on the coast near Georgetown, South
Carolina. The meeting was an opportunity for faculty,
professionals and graduate students in all aspects
of phycology to get together in an informal setting for
voicing and exchanging ideas of mutual interest. For

Symposium
on Harmful Marine Algae in the U.S.,
December 5-9, 2000 at Woods
Hole, Massachusetts
Sponsored
by: the U.S. National Office for Marine Biotoxins and
Harmful Algae (along with several other blue-ribbon
institutions) this was the first of a series of biannual
meetings intended to provide a forum for scientific
exchange and technical communication on all aspects of
marine HAB research in the United States.
The
First Mediterranean Symposium on Marine Vegetation
Organised
by the Regional Activity Centre for Specially Protected
Areas (RAC/SPA). The main objective of the Symposium was to take stock of available
knowledge on the Mediterranean marine vegetation. It also
promoted contacts and exchanges between the Mediterranean
Scientists who have among their fields of interest the
study and/or the conservation of the Marine vegetation
species.
